BHH Lapel Pin Recognition Program

Bakersfield Heart Hospital is committed to recognizing and rewarding employees who exhibit outstanding performance, service excellence and demonstration of our Core Values. Our success depends on each and every employee and their day-to-day actions. These actions are rooted in our Core Values and Patient and Family Centered Care approach to every situation.

Below are lapel pins and what they represent. Check the box next to the pin you believe the nominee should receive. On the nomination page at the end, provide details and list relevant events that demonstrates how the employee meets the criteria for the award. Include details and examples that correspond with the pin criteria.

Compassion is an expected part of healthcare. This category is for extraordinary compassion. Stay with a dying patient, being with patients rather than at the desk. Knowing who the family members are and their role. Further applies to being compassionate to strangers, not just your immediate co-work but those in other areas. To feel concerned about something enough to strive to make a change in practice/process/people – consistently.

Is the quality of being honest and of strong moral principles. Do the right thing even when someone is NOT watching – consistently. Take responsibility for your actions; treat people equally; give max effort; lead by example; don’t accept credit for someone else’s work.

Helping even when the assignment is not yours; helping another department regardless of the extra work it may cause you; (for example: answer call lights for another section, answering the phone in an empty POD; helping other nurses’ patients); manages up co-workers.

Speaks up to protect patients/families/employees/BHH. Consistently regards safety as a core value in their everyday work at BHH; works to reduce risks to patients/families/staff and BHH.

Consistently show respect for all others, staff, patients, families across all types of communication, verbal and nonverbal; is courteous and kind; is thoughtful and a good listener.

Displays all of the following: has a positive attitude; is dependable; behaves professionally (does not gossip, is never rude or disrespectful); is a team player; has a good work ethic; celebrates the achievements of others.

embraces diversity in the broadest sense and appreciates all points of view; exhibits honesty and the highest ethical standards in all matters; pursues organizational goals with creativity and originality; demonstrates extraordinary dedication to the highest quality outcomes; takes responsibility and ownership; shows consideration and appreciation for others; identifies challenges and brings solutions.

  • Enrolled in non-healthcare pre reqs + participating in 3 BHH volunteer events
  • Enrolled in non-healthcare program + participate in 1 BHH volunteer event


Nonclinical

  • AA, BA, MA
  • Enrolled in healthcare pre reqs + participating in 2 BHH volunteer events
  • Enrolled in healthcare program (RN, RT, etc.)
  • Enrolled in non-healthcare pre reqs + participating in 3 BHH volunteer events
  • Enrolled in non-healthcare program + participate in 1 BHH volunteer event
  • Certification + 2 BHH volunteer event;
  • 3 community volunteer events and 4 BHH volunteer events.

Helping the community 6 times in a 12-month period. For example: feed the hungry, teach Sunday school, read to people/children, participate in volunteer programs [schools, churches, therapy dog, youth programs] … you cannot be paid or profit in any way from what you do.

20 years with no disciplinary actions against you during the period requesting a pin.

After all 10 lapel pins are earned, you will get the “Key to Success” pin.

Pins will be presented each month. Award winners will be featured on the website and in social media to recognize their achievement.
